There is often a lack of recognition and respect for the successful contribution that family businesses have made to the UK economy over the years. Family Business United launched the Family Business of the Year Awards to celebrate great British family firms and raise awareness of the contribution that they make.
Harrison Catering Services have triumphed in a highly-competitive category against some truly great family firms. The Harrison proposition is centred around the on-site preparation and cooking of top quality meals made with fresh ingredients. Currently over 100 clients enjoy a Harrison food service, with more than 100,000 meals being served each day by approximately 2,600 staff across more than 400 sites.
Claire Aylward, Joint Managing Director of Harrison Catering Services, said:
“We have always believed that being a family business is one of Harrison’s unique differences. We have a strong set of values, and it is every one of our staff living those values each and every day that has made us a success. We’re delighted to have our business and the entire Harrison Catering Services family recognised and celebrated by this award.”
Paul Andrews, Founder and Managing Director of Family Business United, added:
“The contribution that family firms have made over the years should not go unnoticed and we are delighted that Harrison Catering Services have been recognised for their endeavours. Not only are they a great family business but the way that they have evolved as a second generation family firm under the joint leadership of second generation siblings sets a benchmark for others to follow and they deserve the accolades that this award will bring.”
Sandy Loder, CEO of AH Loder Advisers and sponsor of this award, explains:
“Harrison were up against some tough competition with the likes of Westons Cider, Hoburne, The Morgan Motor Company and Fudges but they were clear winners when it came to demonstrating how they have embraced the challenges associated with being a family business, developing the right governance structures and planning for the transition of both management and ownership to the second generation. They have a fantastic business and it is great to see the family values being embraced and incorporated successfully into the way that their business is run.”
Claire concludes:
“Family businesses are the true bastions of the British economy, and we are delighted to have been awarded the Family Business of the Year title. We are proud to be associated with this initiative, to celebrate our status as a family business and above all, to be come out on top against such prestigious competition.”
