1940S DAY AT WOODBRIDGE HIGH SCHOOL
- Harrison
Pupils at Woodbridge High School celebrated National School Meals week and Armistice Day by holding a special 1940s day, complete with a period Harrison lunch menu. We have catered at Woodbridge since 2007 and they’re certainly never seen a menu like this one before!
The menu – featuring items long forgotten from school lunch menus – was:
- Corned beef hash
- Spam Fritters with chips and mushy peas
- Lord Woolton pie
- Honey cakes
The pupils really enjoyed the menu, especially the honey cakes – and Woolton Pie was a surprise hit as well! For those who have never encountered this dish, it’s essentially a meat and vegetable pie without the meat (named after the war-time Minister of Food, Lord Woolton).
The story was covered by the East London and West Essex Guardian, for whom we also owe an acknowledgement for the photograph above which features Alexandra Wilson and Elliot Pearce from Woodbridge High School.
