Local at-home care company, Home Instead Senior Care, has joined forces with Upland Primary School in Bexleyheath, Harrison Catering Services and Amber Cars in Plumstead to bring a heart warming new initiative to the Boroughs of Greenwich, Bexley and their surrounding areas this Christmas.
The gift-giving scheme, called ‘Be a Santa to a Senior’, saw a plethora of gifts distributed amongst elderly people who might be alone this Christmas, and the care company is still looking for people or community groups who would benefit from receiving a gift.
Working with local charities such as Salvation Army, Age Concern and Skills [&] Care, Home Instead has identified 40 isolated older people in the community who are not fortunate to be around their loved ones this Christmas. The collected gift hampers will be distributed by the partner charities.
When Home Instead Senior Care approached Upland Primary School, where Harrison provides the catering, to take part in the scheme, their generosity knew no bounds. The school not only accepted the invitation to collect gifts and raise awareness with the children, the care company was given 25 invitations for their clients to attend a special Christmas carol concert followed by a hearty Christmas lunch.
Following on from there, Home Instead Senior Care then approached Amber Cars who were more than happy to be involved in the ‘Be a Santa to a Senior’ project. Amber Cars kindly provided a fleet of cars that collected the seniors from their homes and brought them to the school and back home again, free of charge. Harrison Catering Services also joined in and provided the Christmas lunch for the seniors who attended the programme.
Speaking about ‘Be a Santa to a Senior’, owner of Home Instead Senior Care in Greenwich and Bexley, Mr. Fatta Thapa said, “The launch of the Be a Santa Scheme couldn’t have gone better and we are delighted that Upland Primary School, Harrison Catering Services and Amber Cars partnered with us to enable us to distribute gifts to people who really need them.
“The donations from the community were so incredible that we are now looking for people and community groups who may benefit from receiving a special gift in time for Christmas to get in touch with us. We would be delighted to help bring some festive cheer to those who need it most.”
In closing, Adam Twyman (Deputy Head at Upland Primary School), Tracy Manak (Group Manager at Harrison) and Darren Wilson (Manager of Amber Cars) said, “We are more than happy to be working with Home Instead and helping to make ‘Be a Santa to a Senior’ a huge success.”
